12 Drinks to Enjoy this Spring

“Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail: hippity hoppity spring is on its way!"

That song always reminds me of my younger brother; when he came home from the hospital he had a Peter Cottontail stuffed animal which used to play that song, and ever since then it's been *his*

And well, if recent weather and bird songs are any indication, it would appear that song is correct—spring truly is on it's way, which is a good thing because I've been daydreaming about it for some time now (I can’t be the only one). I love winter, but we've had a relatively mild one this year, so I've basically given up on the possibility of my favorite snow-related activities and switched over to springtime daydreams; and included in those daydreams—always—is a delicious, refreshing drink.

Picture it.

A spring morning, finally warm enough for the windows to be open; the sweet breeze drifts through the house, ushering out all of that stagnant winter air. Birds can be heard chirping merrily. The first flowers of the year—purple crocuses and white snowdrops for me—are starting to appear , and as leaves burst forth from the trees, that world starts to return to green. Sweet smells, sweet sounds, sweet sights, and a sweet drink to sip! Spring never fails to make me feel refreshed and renewed so it makes sense, I think, to celebrate the season with a similarly refreshing beverage.

I can’t force that scene to occur any faster than Mother Nature wants it to (I often say, when people get upset that spring or summer weather doesn’t arrive precisely on the date that reads “spring begins” or “summer begins,” that Mother Nature doesn’t abide by any calendar) but I know it's on it's way, and in the meantime, I can still enjoy those drinks that make me think of spring.

Lately I’ve been on a flower/herb kick and my favorite cocktail is lavender lemonade. I know, I know, some may say, “Lavender? In a beverage?! That’s something that smells pretty. You put in your bubble bath to relax, not drink!”

But I assure you: yes drink!

Ok, sure, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea (any by cup of tea I mean glass of flavored vodka and lemonade), and some may have a reaction similar to the one my husband had the first time he tried a Turkish Delight.

“It tastes like my grandmother used to smell!” he said disgusted, referring to the rose essence.

As for me, I’m a fan of surprising flavors in my beverages. With that in mind—and in honor of spring—I’ve gathered up some particularly spring-like beverages with surprising flavors to enjoy this spring, summer or really any time at all!
